There's still time to appeal!

Because we want you informed...

In case you or someone you know plans to file an assessment appeal, here is a friendly reminder that the deadline to do so is Monday, September 19th.  You still have 1 more week to file!

The original filing deadline was today. Due to the late arrival of some assessment notices, the Board of Review extended the deadline one week to allow more time to appeal.

Filing? But your evidence is not ready... that's okay!

The appeal form in duplicate must be filed no later than Monday, September 19th.

However, it is okay if you do not have all your evidence done yet. You have until Monday, October 19th to submit ALL your evidence (so long as the appeal form is filed by Sept. 19th).  After October 19th, the Board of Review is not required to consider evidence not filed on time.

When you file the appeal form and intend to submit evidence at a later date, please write "additional evidence to follow" in the remarks section to notify the Board you did not forget the evidence.

NOTE: You will need to submit 2 copies of your evidence and you should be sure that your PIN# is easily seen on the first page so that it is filed faster and attached to the correct appeal.

Where to File

When you appeal your assessment, you are appealing to the Winnebago County Board of Review to lower the Township Assessor's valuation.

You or someone you know can hand deliver or mail the appeal or evidence to the following:

WINNEBAGO COUNTY BOARD OF REVIEW
COUNTY ADMINISTRATION BUILDING
404 ELM STREET, ROOM 301

ROCKFORD, ILLINOIS 61101
Tel (815) 319-4463

MAILING TIPS: If you plan on mailing the appeal or evidence, please make sure the postmark date is no later than the deadline to file.  (Appeal Form is by 9/19, all evidence is by 10/19).

Additionally, you might want to consider mailing the envelope certified, delivery confirmation, or by some other tracking means to document date of mailing or receipt by the Board of Review.

Have you moved?

We want you to receive notices at the correct address.  Many people do not know that it is the County Treasurer who needs to be notified of a new mailing address. To update your contact information, please complete a change of address form and deliver it to the Treasurer's office.  This will ensure that tax bills and assessment notices are mailed to the correct address.
